SUMMARY:SPARKLE: Cuba's Complexities and Contradictions
DESCRIPTION:Cuba – The Pearl of the Antilles – has a rich history that goes back centuries. Havana\, its capital city\, is over 500 years old. Its culture is a mix of European (mostly Spaniards) and Africans (mostly from West Africa). Cuba is not a museum. It is a vibrant – if complex – society. Cuba’s current realities are certainly challenging – and complicated. \nOur guide\, Reemberto Rodriguez\, was born in Cuba\, raised and schooled in the deep south (Atlanta\, GA)\, and now lives in Silver Spring. He has journeyed to Cuba 15 times over the last decade and teaches an interdisciplinary study abroad course for the University of Maryland in Havana. \nHe will share stories about his journeys to Cuba and Cuba’s rich history\, its relationship with the US through the ages\, the current context of today’s Cuba\, and future possibilities. Come with your questions! \nSPARKLE programs are open to the public.  Registration is encouraged. DESCRIPTION:Easy to learn and constantly keeps you on your toes!! Come join us on Zoom and the Rummikub App.\nYou will need the following: \n\nThe Original Rummikub app – by Kinkajoo (Its icon is the black Joker-face tile)\n\nYou will need to download the app to an iPad\, iPhone\, Android phone or Android tablet to play. (NOTE: the app is not available on Windows computers). \nWhen you create your Player Name on the app\, we recommend that you start your name with SSV\, so all our SSV players will be easy to find. (For example: my name is SSVCecilia) \n\nA Facebook account to connect to other SSV players. – All SSV players will have to friend each other on Facebook\nWe highly recommend a separate device to access the Zoom.\n\nWe plan to all get together via Zoom\, starting at 4 pm on Wednesdays. Then we’ll go into separate Zoom -Break Out Rooms for each group (of 2\, 3 or 4 players) depending on who is present and want to play together. We typically keep the Zoom going so we can talk while we’re playing; more experienced players can give guidance\, etc. \nPlease sign up ASAP.
