SUMMARY:Natl Museum of Women in the Arts
DESCRIPTION:The Village Daytrippers have scheduled a trip to the National Museum of Women in the Arts on Sunday March 2nd. Here is a link to the museum’s website: https://maps.app.goo.gl/sTB4BeHsCQC8SaK3A \n\n\nFor those who wish to travel together\, we will plan to take the Metro to the nearest stop\, which is Metro Center\, on the Red Line. We will meet at 12:30 pm at the main entrance of the Silver Spring Metro and take the Metro downtown. For those who wish to drive\, we will meet at the museum at 1:00 pm. After visiting the museum\, we will plan to have tea at the museum cafe if it’s open or at a nearby restaurant at 3:30 pm.  More on this as we get closer to the date. This activity will require a moderate level of activity including the ability to independently navigate the Metro\, walk a few blocks and climb stairs. \nVillage members\, for further members-only details and to register (required)\, log into your member account and visit the Calendar page or contact the office. \nIf you are interested exploring Village membership (including a no-cost trial membership) or sampling selected members-only Village events\, contact the office at 240-833-5586 or operations@silverspringvillage.org.

SUMMARY:Village Book Club at Charles McGee Library
DESCRIPTION:Silver Spring Village’s in-person book club will meet on the fourth Thursday afternoon of each month at 3:00 at the Brig. General Charles McGee Library at 900 Wayne Avenue. All are welcome. \nThe March 2025 book is: Island of Seawomen\, by Lisa See. \nSet on the Korean island of Jeju\, Mi-ja and Young-sook\, two girls from very different backgrounds\, begin working in the sea with their village’s all-female diving collective. Over many decades — through the Japanese colonialism of the 1930s and 1940s\, World War II\, the Korean War\, and the era of cellphones and wet suits for the women divers — Mi-ja and Young-sook develop the closest of bonds. Nevertheless\, their differences are impossible to ignore: Mi-ja is the daughter of a Japanese collaborator\, forever marking her\, and Young-sook was born into a long line of haenyeo and will inherit her mother’s position leading the divers. After hundreds of dives and years of friendship\, forces outside their control will push their relationship to the breaking point. \n
