DESCRIPTION:The Village Daytrippers have scheduled a trip to the National Museum of Women in the Arts on Sunday March 2nd. Admission is free on the first Sunday of each month\, so we thought we’d try this date.  The museum is located at 1250 New York Avenue\, NW Washington\, DC. Here is a link to the museum’s website: https://maps.app.goo.gl/sTB4BeHsCQC8SaK3A \n\n\nFor those who wish to travel together\, we will plan to take the Metro to the nearest stop\, which is Metro Center\, on the Red Line. We will meet at 12:30 pm at the main entrance of the Silver Spring Metro and take the Metro downtown. For those who wish to drive\, we will meet at the museum at 1:00 pm. After visiting the museum\, we will plan to have tea at the museum cafe if it’s open or at a nearby restaurant at 3:30 pm.  More on this as we get closer to the date. General Charles McGee Library at 900 Wayne Avenue.  All are welcome. \nThe February book is: A Fever in the Heartland by Timothy Egan \nA historical thriller by the Pulitzer and National Book Award-winning author that tells the riveting story of the Klan’s rise to power in the 1920s\, the cunning con man who drove that rise\, and the woman who stopped them. The Roaring Twenties was the height of the uniquely American hate group\, the Ku Klux Klan. Their domain was not only the old Confederacy but the Heartland and the West. They hated Blacks\, Jews\, Catholics\, and immigrants in equal measure\, and took radical steps to keep these people from the American promise. And the man who set in motion their takeover of great swaths of America was a charismatic charlatan named D. C. Stephenson. Stephenson was a magnetic presence whose life story changed with every telling. Within two years of his arrival in Indiana\, he’d become the Grand Dragon of the state and the architect of the strategy that brought the group out of the shadows — their message endorsed from the pulpits of local churches\, spread at family picnics and town celebrations. Judges\, prosecutors\, ministers\, governors\, and senators across the country all proudly proclaimed their membership. But at the peak of his influence\, it was a seemingly powerless woman — Madge Oberholtzer — who would reveal his secret cruelties\, and whose deathbed testimony finally brought the Klan to their knees. \n

Come join us on Zoom and the Rummikub App.\nYou will need the following: \n\nThe Original Rummikub app – by Kinkajoo (Its icon is the black Joker-face tile)\n\nYou will need to download the app to an iPad\, iPhone\, Android phone or Android tablet to play. (NOTE: the app is not available on Windows computers). \nWhen you create your Player Name on the app\, we recommend that you start your name with SSV\, so all our SSV players will be easy to find. (For example: my name is SSVCecilia) \n\nA Facebook account to connect to other SSV players. – All SSV players will have to friend each other on Facebook\nWe highly recommend a separate device to access the Zoom.\n\nWe plan to all get together via Zoom\, starting at 4 pm on Wednesdays. Then we’ll go into separate Zoom -Break Out Rooms for each group (of 2\, 3 or 4 players) depending on who is present and want to play together. We typically keep the Zoom going so we can talk while we’re playing; more experienced players can give guidance\, etc. \nPlease sign up ASAP.
