Navigating sex & violence on stage is a constant balance of safety, storytelling, and communication. Come meet Fight & Intimacy Directors Jonathan Ezra Rubin and Mallory Shear as they perform a couple of choreographed fights and discuss how as choreographers they will put together a fight for the theatre, and lead a discussion on the ins and outs of both theatrical violence and theatrical intimacy! Part demonstration, part lecture, part Q&A.

Jonathan Ezra Rubin is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors and freelances as a fight and intimacy director throughout the Washington, DC metro area. A three-time Helen Hayes Award nominee for outstanding choreography and a WATCH Award nominee for fight choreography, Jonathan has choreographed fights and intimacy at the Studio Theatre, Signature Theatre, Mosaic Theater Company, GALA Hispanic Theatre, and many more.

Mallory Shear is a performer, fight and intimacy choreographer, and teaching artist in the DMV. She has been seen on stage at such theaters as the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Baltimore Shakespeare Factory, The Strand Theatre, Adventure Theatre, Flying V, Washington Shakespeare Theatre, Molotov Theatre, Live Action Theatre, Endangered Species Theatre, as well as many others.

SPARKLE is a joint program of Silver Spring Town Center Inc. and Silver Spring Village.
