Join us for a SPARKLE visit to the Sandy Spring Museum and tour of the exhibition As Long As I Have Breath in My Body, which is open April 6 – July 20, 2025. The exhibition honors two groups – In Process and The Village of African American Doll & Puppet Artists as culture bearers, teachers, social advocates, and healers shaped by the Civil Rights and Black Arts Movements. This exhibition explores their intertwined histories and their relentless efforts to uplift and protect the legacy of African American communities through their traditional arts–spirituals, freedom songs, dolls, puppets, and textiles. The exhibition is curated by doll artist Camila Bryce-LaPorte.
The tour will be led by two of the featured visual and performing artists Francine Haskins and Julee Dickerson-Thompson.
The SPARKLE is a monthly program presented in collaboration with Silver Spring Town Center and Silver Spring Village.
