Silver Spring Village Supports Recently Terminated Federal Workers & Contractors
Silver Spring, MD – March 25,2025 – Silver Spring Village, a local nonprofit dedicated to reimagining life over 50, is offering no-risk trial memberships and meaningful volunteer opportunities for terminated federal workers and consultants. This initiative allows individuals facing jarring life changes to explore community resources and connections without a financial obligation or long-term commitment.
For 12 years, Silver Spring Village has helped older and mid-life adults stay active, intellectually engaged, and independent through social events, educational programs, practical support services, and volunteer opportunities. “The Village isn’t a physical place like a retirement home, but rather a great concept of how people can choose to build supportive community on their own terms,” said Douglas Gaddis, Executive Director of Silver Spring Village.
“We understand the stress that former federal workers and consultants face. This initiative offers a chance to stay engaged, find new opportunities, and feel valued,” continued Gaddis.
“Some former federal workers and contractors may turn their unexpected job loss into a rewarding early retirement, while others may want to stay sharp and continue public service while rebuilding their professional lives. Either way, the trial period celebrates our valued public servants with a risk-free way to explore our community, our services, and our volunteering opportunities.”
The six-month trial membership provides access to all Village offerings, including social gatherings, recreational activities, cultural and educational programs, health and wellness learning, and practical supports. There is no upfront cost, and participants can choose to continue with a paid membership later.
The Village also offers customizable volunteer opportunities with training and potential networking for those who are interested in interim or long-term volunteering. “Volunteering with the Village is a great way to ease the emotional impact of job loss by feeling useful and engaged with others,” said Gaddis.
